An amazing 20 years service!

Sq. Ldr. Clive Hamilton received his 20 years Long Service Medal for his unwavering service to SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity.

The Medal and Certificate was presented to Clive by SSAFA Borders Branch President, Prof Sir Hew Strachan Lord Lieutenant Tweeddale (pictured) at the branch AGM on 17th April in Galashiels.

During Clive’s 20 years service, a conservative estimate is that over 500 veterans and their families have benefited from Clive’s assistance.

Adrian Lucas, Chairman of SSAFA Borders Branch said, “Clive Hamilton’s dedication to each veteran and their family is outstanding. His determination to meet the individuals every need in either financial terms, or providing goods, home improvements such as access or a combination of all three is unwavering until he is satisfied that all the client needs are fully met.

Of particular note is Clive’s kindness when helping those who cannot always help themselves. He is a true example of what SSAFA strives to be – by helping those who have served us and our Country.”

Clive lives in Peebles and in addition to SSAFA he volunteers for many other local charities.

Charity Team Clay Shoot

“Our third SSAFA Borders Clay Shoot took place at Bisley near Selkirk on Sunday 14th April 2024 and further built on previous year’s success.

In what is becoming a regular fixture in the diaries of the regular teams, the event is attracting teams from further a field. This is therefore spreading the SSAFA name and our aims to more and more and over a wider area.

We raised a significant amount of money for the veterans and families of those that we serve; all due the hard work of Major John Currie and volunteer Jane Dickson our awareness team. It was their effort and alacrity that made the day such good fun and rewarding with so many wonderful prizes from the raffle that followed.

A huge thank you therefore, to the contribution from Bisley, the teams, all those who contributed to a wonderful day for a fantastic charity.”

Chairman, SSAFA Borders Branch.

“SSAFA Borders (with help from the Scottish Government) assisted an Army veteran to clear a  debt of several thousand pounds.  The debt had been incurred for medical expenses by an elderly relative not entitled to free care on the NHS.  The family were trying to repay the debt themselves until SSAFA Borders stepped in to assist.”
